Spider Wolves, also known by their ID, #044, are distinguished by their spotted, dark gray and brown pelts. Their paw pads are a striking white, and their face features ten bright red eyes that assist them with seeing in the dark. Moreover, Spider Wolves sport an extra pair of arms along with superhuman grip strength that assist them in scaling steep walls, allowing them to escape life-threatening danger.
Spider Wolves prioritize not only themselves, but their own kin. While not inherently the most social species, they can form close bonds with one another and are typically found in groups - otherwise known as packs or colonies. These packs do not have a definite member limit, but some instances will isolate themselves from the pack if they simply do not possess enough social energy.
Being a rather reclusive species, Spider Wolves mostly only group with each other to extend their survivability against anything they perceive as a threat, whether that be humans or other specimens. They additionally monopolize their pack structure in order to hunt prey as efficiently as possible. While they will be mindful enough to share their food with other members of the pack, their intrinsic self-preservation will cause them to act more selfish if there is not enough food to expend to everybody.
Spider Wolves are not strong beings, and prefer to cluster up on the walls to maximize their safety. They possess the tendency to form a network of webs both as an additional layer of security, and to trap any potential prey that may intrude too closely upon their vicinity.
Like any other specimen, Spider Wolves have an instinct to infect humans. They will immediately take any opportunity to infect human prey, so long as their lives are not at risk in the process. Although Spider Wolves may work together to weaken prey, they are ultimately selfish when it comes to who gets to land the final blow. Depending on the individual, this infighting can occasionally become so excessive that it grants the prey an opportunity to escape whilst its aggressors bicker among themselves.
Spider Wolves are a generally reclusive species, preferring to initially maintain distance from and analyze foreign species that enter their chamber. They prefer to stay beyond the reach of larger and stronger species, but will adversely target smaller and weaker species, treating them as prey.
Spider wolves have an innate rivalry with Crystal Wolves, although they seem to be aware of their heavy physical disadvantages in comparison to their rival. As a result, Spider Wolves take a much more intellectual approach to dispatching singular Crystal Wolf instances. Working as a group to web as much ground area around the intruder as possible, they will take advantage of their constrained movement to overwhelm and gradually wear them down. Accounting for the intruder's ability to fight back, they will take turns attacking either alone or in pairs to maintain a constant pressure, with fit spider wolves replacing worn down ones whilst the latter recovers.
Adversely, Spider Wolves will take a much more defensive approach when confronted by a group of Crystal Wolves. Rather than confronting their rivals directly, they will instead utilize their webs in an attempt to annoy them out of the chamber. The exact methods used vary between individuals, but the most commonly utilized tactics consist of either webbing their rivals directly, or using the webs to make the chamber's terrain too irritating for them to withstand.
Spider Wolves will hunt prey that are smaller than them in size, or show extreme weakness. These include Tabbies, Cone Lizards, Snow Leopards, and Blue Dragons.
Whilst their hunting tactics may vary between these specimens, they abundantly include setting up traps, surrounding, and sneaking up behind their prey before striking. However, pack hunting is only explicitly preferred when it comes to Snow Leopards in particular. If the trap they set up fails, they'd instead attempt to physically subdue the target.
Although Hypno Cats are another specimen Spider Wolves may target, they are typically more cautious around them due to their hypnotic abilities. Without the support of a pack, individual Spider Wolves prefer to maintain their distance from Hypno Cats.
Spider Wolves are considered carnivorous, mostly eating meat. Due to their spider counterpart, they're able to eat a variety of things such as frogs, lizards, and other insects. Though, if push comes to shove, they'll cannibalize other Spider Wolves as a last ditch effort if their primary prey manages to escape. This cannibalism can be directed towards any other Spider Wolves within the chamber, including CIS.
Attempting to consume foods outside of their typical diet will make them feel ill, even in small amounts. If any spider wolf instance consumes a large amount of these inedible foods, they will become debilitatingly ill. Depending on the severity and how much food was eaten, they could potentially die.
Due to specimen #044's dangerous physical capabilities, its source puddle is housed behind a high-level door within U2-B. Instances inhabiting the chamber enjoy utilizing its vertical space, and can typically be found at higher elevations.
